The cartoon above kind of sums up the way teachers feel about current events. Monday's Daily Show with Jon Stewart also had a segment on a similar subject and a lot of the discussion at Monday's Business meeting centered around how all educators need to be doing a better job of explaining why certain programs are needed and included with that, should be documentation to show results.
There was very little official action taken during the meeting. The board voted 7-0 to approve a calendar of events for budget development from now until a final vote in June. The remaining issue is what days will be bad weather make-up days and when the last day of school will be. A survey of teachers showed that a little more than half supported the calendar above. However, only slightly more than half the teachers responded to the survey. Since the survey was not conducted statistically, I'm not sure the results represent anything. The discussion centered around trying to move the remaining two bad weather days from legal holidays.
A lot of the rest of the meeting involved recognition of many groups from the district. Below is a picture of new National Board Teachers who were recognized:
