These are my notes from the October 24, 2011 Rock Hill School Board Business Meeting.
The following action items were passed with 7-0 votes:
The following action items were passed with 7-0 votes:
- Approved previous month's minutes, personnel recommendations, use of facilities by two churches, and 4 overnight field study requests.
- Approved the following policies for first reading: EBBA,JLCC, JICFAA, ADB, JICG, ADC, and BCB,.
- Approved the following policies for second and final reading: GBEA, GBED, GCO, JBCC, BG, BGC/BGD, and BIA/BIB.
- Approved for up to three board members to be delegates to the South Carolina School Board Association's Business meeting in December.
The board voted 6-1 (Vining against) to give District administrators and support staff a 1.5% cost of living raise and to give teachers who did not receive a step increase a $500 bonus.
In other business at the meeting the board heard the following:
- Citizen Don Belk explained to the board the difficult business situation and high tax climate that people were experiencing in Rock Hill.
- Three students from Rawlinson Road made a presentation on what they have been doing in school.
- Principals from Sullivan Middle School, Dutchman Creek Middle School, and Mount Gallant Elementary School talked about Technology, Leadership, and Collaboration. They made several comments about the use of twitter for professional development and collaboration. This was a 'mini' presentation from one given during the summer.
- The administration reported on efforts to sell ads on vehicles and the rental of facilities.
The board recognized the following:
- Northwestern Purple Regiment Band for their first place finish in the 4A Upper State Championship this past Saturday.
- Rock Hill High School Band for their second place finish in the 4A Upper State Championship this past Saturday.
- South Pointe High School Band for their 7th place finish in the 3A Upper State Championship this past Saturday.
- The most recent Rock Hill Education Foundation Grant Winners.
- The Distinguished Climbers for October.
- The 4 Rock Hill School District Social Study teachers of State-wide Distinction. There were only 44 chosen in the state and Rock Hill had 4.
