Band of Thunder is Grand Champion
Congratulations to the South Pointe High School Band of Thunder on earning their first-ever overall Grand Champion award in school history on Oct. 13 at the Southern Spartan Classic. Directed by James Turner, the band placed first in Class 4A music, general effect, color guard, percussion and drum major and second in marching.
School Board Forums
The four candidates for the one at-large seat on the Rock Hill School Board will participate in two forums next week:
The first will be held at 7 pm on Oct. 23 at the Cotton Factory.
The second, sponsored by the Rock Hill NAACP, will be held at 7 pm Oct. 25 at the Flint Hill Baptist Church (1214 Flint Hill Street).
Fundraisers
►Northwestern High School's Cross Country Team will host a pancake breakfast from 8-10 am tomorrow, Oct. 20, at Fatz Café on Herlong. Tickets will be $7 for adults and $4 for children age 12 and under. Take-out orders will also be available.
►Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) at the Applied Technology Center (ATC) will be collecting cell phones (phone and batteries, not charger) until the Thanksgiving break to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The phones can be dropped off at ATC's front office. HOSA's advisers are Brian Smith, Laurel George and Curisa Tucker.

Devin Pearson, South Pointe High School's quarterback, is one of five finalists for WSOC-TV's Big 22. One can vote up to 9 times daily through Oct. 29.
