10/22 Board Meeting Notes

The Rock Hill School Board Trustees took the following action at the October 22nd meeting:

Voted 7-0 to approve the appointment of John Kirell to be the next Belleview Principal (Dr. Sharp will be retiring at the end of this school year - John is currently an assistant principal at Saluda Trail) and Latoya Dixon to be the next principal at Mount Gallant (Chris Beard will be the new principal at Mount Holly - Latoya is currently an assistant principal at Old Pointe). Both will begin assistant principal duties at their future schools as soon as they can be relieved of their current duties.

Voted 7-0 to approve the Consent agenda (minutes and personnel recommendations)

Voted 7-0 to approve policy GBEBD/GBEBD-R        (acceptable use of technology)  for first reading and policy IKE/IKE-R (promotion/retention) for second reading.

Voted 6-1 (with Brown against) to approve a Northwestern student group trip to France

Voted 7-0 for the district to publish a new elementary zoning map for comments.  It should be on the district web site by the end of the week.  The changes affect Oakdale, Belleview, Independence, and Lesslie elementary schools.

Voted 7-0 to approve up to 2 board members attending a conference in Dallas Tx. In January.

The Board agreed to continue discussions on the middle school map that was agreed to at the last work session.  However,  the Laurel Creek area was moved back to Dutchman Creek Middle School.

The Board agreed to finalize the middle school map before addressing the high school map.  These will be topics for the November work session.

The Board heard presentations on a new 4 year old program to be started at the Applied Technology Center (ATC) and an update on School Safety.
