12 schools, 3 in Midlands, named finalists for Carolina First Palmetto’s Finest Awards
The competition to be one of four Carolina First Palmetto's Finest Awards schools has narrowed to a dozen finalists, including three Midlands schools.
The awards, which recognize student achievement, faculty training, program goals and teaching quality, office practices and community involvement, will be presented in March to four schools. Carolina First Bank and the S.C. Association of School Administrators sponsor the awards. Winners will include two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school.
The award is in its 30th year.
The 12 finalists were chosen based on a 20-page application and onsite inspections last fall. They now face a second onsite evaluation.

Aiken Elementary, Aiken County
Buffalo Elementary, Union County
Killian Elementary, Richland 2
Lake Carolina Elementary, Richland 2
McDonald Elementary, Georgetown County
Pate Elementary, Darlington County
Lugoff-Elgin Middle, Kershaw County
Riverside Middle, Anderson 4
Central High, Chesterfield County
Greenville Technical Charter, Greenville County
Waccamaw High, Georgetown County
Wren High, Anderson 1
An award sponsor, Promethean Inc., will will give an electronic classroom outfit to each of the four winning schools. Another sponsor, Data Recognition Corporation, is throwing a leadership reception.
