Notes From Rock Hill Schools November Business Meeting

All votes taken during the meeting were 7-0 votes. The following votes were taken:

  • Bob Norwood for Board Chair
  • Jim Vining for Board Vice-Chair
  • Approval of meeting agenda
  • Approval of consent agenda (minutes, personnel recommendations, student travel, use of Rawlinson Road facilities by Impact Church, Jim Vining's board compensation distribution for November (Richmond Drive and Ebinport) and December (Sullivan and Saluda Trail)
  • Ebinport Elementary and Richmond Drive Elementary as spanish language schools of choice
  • Sullivan Middle School and Saluda Trail Middle School as IB Middle Years schools of choice
  • Policy IKD, IKE, and KHB for first reading.
The board agreed to have a retreat on November 30 and worked on items for the retreat.

The board recognized; Mikki Rentschler for her 7 years of Board service; Belleview Elementary School for their selection to represent the state of SC as a Title One School that has narrowed the achievement gap and;"Distinguished Climbers" that were selected by building administrators.

The board received an update from the auditing firm which indicated, as of July, the district had 1.42 months of reserve fund balance.

Two parents spoke to the board on schools of choice. Mr. Collins cautioned against having schools of choice if transportation was not provided for those who don't have transportation available to them and, Ms. Buckly asked the board to consider making Rosewood Elementary School a school of choice.
