Rock Hill Schools Retreat Item

One of the topics of Tuesday's Rock Hill School Board Retreat was communications and do we really want community input. This was posted on the District Web site today (November 30):

Meetings for Parents on Grading

November 30, 2010

While other meetings may be scheduled, three dates have been set aside for parents to learn about prospective new grading methods in Rock Hill Schools. They are as follows:
5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, Rock Hill High
7:00 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, Sullivan Middle
6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, Northwestern

For the past year, a group of teachers has been exploring how to standardize grading across the district's middle and high schools. The committee has discussed many issues related to grading, including whether homework or class participation should figure into a student's final grade.

The committee will make its first presentation on grading before the school board at the board's work session on Monday, Dec. 13. The work session, which will be open to the public, will begin at 5:30 in the district office at 660 N. Anderson Road.

Ultimately, it will be up to the school board as to what recommendations it will accept and when any new grading policies will take effect.
