District Information - 11/14

...Bonnie Harris, a remediation teacher at Castle Heights, has been selected as a Distinguished Teacher of Reading by the Palmetto Council of the International Reading Association.

...Stephanie Daniels, drama teacher at Rock Hill High, has been selected by the S.C. Theatre Assn. for the Deborah Smith-Hoffman Educator Mentor Award.

<Students at Finley Road had their manners checked as they enjoyed a "family style" Thanksgiving dinner with their teachers and principal, Deborah Maynard

<Cathy Griffin, a social studies teacher at Northwestern has been invited by College Board to be a presenter at the Southern Political Science Convention in New Orleans in January.

<Topics on the current School Talk, the superintendent's TV show on Cable 18, are: (1) school safety with Susan York, director of school climate; Sheriff Bruce Bryant and Capt. Stanley Wells of the York County Sheriff's Dept.; and Neil McVann, principal at Oakdale; and (2) dealing with infectious diseases, once again with Susan and Eddie Robinson, from the Operations Center.

<State Supt. Jim Rex is planning to visit schools in York County on Nov. 27. "Proposed" visits in District Three include the Central Child Development Center, South Pointe, and Dutchman Creek Middle. Dr. Britt Blackwell, State School Board Member, will be on WRHI's Straight Talk on Thursday, November 15, 2007.  Topic will be the state's low graduation rate.
