In a meet that saw jump-offs in both the Girl's & Boy's High Jump, a run-off to break a 3-way tie for the final 2 spots in the Boy's 100 Meter Dash Finals, a re-running of the Girl's 100 Meter Hurdles Finals due to an interference infraction, a broken cross-bar in the Pole Vault, a malfunction in the printer for the Timing System, reviews of video tape to determine winners in at least two sprint races, Northwestern's Track & Field Team qualified 30 individuals in 47 events and 5 of 6 relay teams to advance to next weekend's 4A qualifier meet at Blythewood High School in Blythewood, SC.
The girls qualified 16 individuals in 28 events and 2 relays and were led by Nicole Alexander who qualified in 4 events; Kimberly Riggs who qualified in 3 events & Kelia Shelton who also qualified in 3 events. On the boy's side 14 individuals qualified in 19 events and all 3 relays advanced. The guys were led by Patrick Cunningham , Jarret Neely , Cordarrell Patterson , Shaquille Jenkins and Dewaney Mills each of whom qualified in 2 events. Attached are the Top Four Finishers in each event from the Region Meet. These are the qualifiers for the 4A Qualifying Meet next weekend. Think of the Region Meet as Round 1 of the Playoffs and the Qualifier as Round 2 leading up to the Finals on May 15th & 16th.

At last weekend's Southern Conference Championships held at Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, Ga ., Emily Smith (NHS 2008), College of Charleston , was definitely not singing the Statesboro Blues (for all you Allman Brothers fans out there) as she cleared 1.75 meters (5' 9") to win the Southern Conference Outdoor High Jump Title and qualify for the NCAA Regional Meet.
Both Mary Kate and Emily will be competing at the NCAA East Regional to be held May 29th & 30th at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, NC. They will be joined by Angelina Blackmon (NHS 2004) NC State University, who qualified in the 1500 Meter Run at the ACC Championships back in mid-April. This weekend, Angelina broke her own School Record in the 800 Meter Run placing first in 2:07.26 at the Duke Twilight Meet at Duke University in Durham, NC . Her sister and former NHS runner before transferring to Fort Mill, Tiayonna Blackmon , NCSU , placed 9th in the same 800 Meter Run at Duke in a time of 2:14.90. Meanwhile, at the Big South Conference Meet back on April 18th, Coastal Carolina University junior Kasheem Clifton (NHS 2006) earned All Big South Conference honors by placing 3rd in the 110 Meter Hurdles in a time of 14.64 seconds.
