Rock Hill Schools Update For December 3, 2011

Holiday Concerts
  • Tuesday, December 6 - Northwestern High School Bands at 7:30 p.m. Two concert bands and the percussion ensemble will present  holiday music for the entire family.  A highlight will be the audience sing-along and a visit by Santa. In addition, the award-winning Purple Regiment Band will present its annual "curtain-call" performance of this year's show, "Perceptions of Time." In lieu of admission charge, a cash donation to the Empty Stocking Fund will be appreciated.
  • Friday, December 9 - South Pointe High School's Music Department at 7:00 p.m. The concert will benefit Project H.O.P.E., a local charity.  Admission will be two cans of non-perishable food per person. The South Pointe High School Band, Chorus and Orchestra will present their holiday selections and end with a piece featuring all student musicians. According to Beverly Laney, choral director, "This concert is sure to put everyone in the holiday spirit?"
Distinguished Judges to Determine Winners of Student Art Design Contest
The judging of entries in the Energy Conservation Student Art Design Contest will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 7, with a distinguished panel of judges which includes Bennish Brown (Exec. Dir., RH/York Co. Convention & Visitors Bureau); Merritt Croom (President, Rock Hill Chapter of Kiwanis International); Doug Echols (Mayor of Rock Hill); Debra Heintz (Exec. Dir., Arts Council of York County); Ann Reid (member, RH School Board); Trina Ricks (Member, RH School Dist. Education Foundation); Dr. Tom Stanley(Chair, Dept. of Fine Arts, Winthrop University); Ashlie Lancaster (Dir., S.C. Energy Office); and Scott Wickersham (anchor, WSOC-TV Channel 9 News). A total of $4,000 in U.S. Savings Bonds will be awarded to the top winners.
