District Three News for 9/14

Reassignment Plans Announced
For six months, three separate community committees have been looking at potential reassignment plans to relieve overcrowding at Rock Hill High and Old Pointe Elementary and to populate Mount Holly Elementary and Dutchman Creek Middle School that will open in 2008. Under the initial proposed plans:

...1221 elementary students will be reassigned. To populate Mount Holly, students at Belleview, Ebenezer, Independence, Lesslie, Northside, and Oakdale will be impacted. To relieve overcrowding at Old Pointe, students at Old Pointe, Ebinport, Mount Gallant, and York Road will be involved.

...393 students from Rock Hill High will be reassigned to either South Pointe or Northwestern;
...704 middle school students will be reassigned to populate Dutchman Creek.
Maps are now available in all schools for the public to review and make comments. A public forum is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. October 1 in the Sullivan Auditorium, and a final decision by the board may be made on October 22.

<District Three and Richland Two will be the two school systems in the state to pilot a hybrid school bus. A formal announcement will be made by Supt. Jim Rex at the Transportation Complex at 11:00 a.m. on Oct. 11.
