Since some of the test scores are down for English and Math, I question using 30 minutes a day to teach my child a second language (Spanish). I would rather have higher English and Math abilities than to be able to speak a little Spanish.
I also wonder if the teachers are selecting the best courses for their professional development since there are noticeable drops in the core subject scores.
Note I have always disagreed with interrupting a student's normal routine to allow for professional training during normal school hours when the teachers are being paid to teach. The scores show that we need all the teaching time available. We as a district should try to exceed the state minimum for time used to actual teach students new skills.
