Elementary Teacher Selected for Reading Excellence
Congratulations to Devon Mitchell, a first-grade teacher at Lesslie Elementary, who's been selected as a Distinguished Teacher of Reading. Only 26 teachers across the state earned the honor this year, and Devon represents the Palmetto Reading Council. She will be honored on Feb. 25 at the state conference of the S.C. State Council of the International Reading Assn. Michael Waiksnis, principal at Sullivan Middle School and a finalist for the Administrator of the Year award, will also be honored at this conference.

Teacher's Idea in National Magazine
Tonya Janicke, a fourth-grade teacher at India Hook Elementary School, has had a variation of an idea she uses in her math class published in the February/March issue of Mailbox Magazine, the idea magazine for teachers.

FBLA Students Qualify for State Competition
Congratulations to Lisa TompkinsPam PoagJennifer MolnarCarolyn Lesslie, and Paula Hough, advisors to the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) students at Rock Hill High. Of the 16 students competing at the FBLA District Leadership Conference on February 4, 15 students qualified for state competition by placing first through sixth in the varied business categories.
