Rock Hill Schools Update for Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012


Update from Elaine T. Baker, Director of Information Services Rock Hill Schools:

Winthrop's Promotion of Back the Pack a Great Success
Winthrop's "Back the Pack" doubleheader basketball game last Saturday turned out to be a BIG WIN for Winthrop and the district.  Winthrop had the largest crowd of the year to enjoy the games, and the district received the largest number of food donations from one single community event in the program's history--6,000 lbs. In addition, the district received $3,000 for Back the Pack.  Richmond Drive Elementary won the attendance award and received $2,000. 
 
"School Talk"
The latest "School Talk" show, which will air beginning this Friday on Cable 114, features Chris Smith, director of staff development, and Merri Anna Allred, media specialist at India Hook Elementary, talking about staff development opportunities for teachers. Brenda Campbell, principal at Saluda Trail Middle School, and Buddy King, assistant principal at Rock Hill High, are also on the show discussing after-school opportunities for students which, hopefully, help in decreasing the district's dropout rate.Supt. Lynn Moody hosts the monthly show which is produced by students inMartha Menchinger's visual communications class at the Applied Technology Center.
 
Feb. 16 "RAP" Session
Rock Hill Schools will present a "RAP" session (Raising Awareness ofParents) on Thursday evening, February 16, from 6:30-7:30 in the Sullivan Auditorium on the topic "Parenting A Challenging Child." Please see attached flyer for details and where other RAP sessions will be taking place this month on the same topic.
 
School Board's Presentation to Community Groups
Members of the Rock Hill School Board are interested in providing a 15-minute presentation before local civic and other organizations on the challenges the schools face. To schedule a presentation, please contactkvinson@rhmail.org or by calling 981-1005.
