Rock Hill's Martinez Makes College Soccer News National Team of the Week

Northwestern High School graduate and current NC State Soccer star Alex Martinez made the CollegeSoccerNews.com National Team of the WeekCollege Soccer News named Alex Martinez one of its National Players of the Week for his performance in the Wolfpack's wins over Delaware and Santa Clara at the John Rennie Nike Invitational. 

Martinez netted a goal and contributed two assists in the Pack's 6-0 rout of Delaware. He also provided the game-winner in State's 2-1 win over Santa Clara. Those achievements earned him MVP honors for the tournament.

Behind Martinez, the Wolfpack has leapt out to a 4-0 start for the first time since 1987. State returns to action Friday, September 7 with an 8 p.m. match at UNC Greensboro.

Martinez Transferred to NC State after two seasons at High Point.
At High Point in 2011: Played in 19 games with 10 starts ... Led HPU with 11 goals and 24 points ... Also had two assists ... Scored the final goal to secure HPU to a 3-1 win over Campbell in the Big South Quarter-Finals ... Recorded a career-high eight shots and had two goals with one being the game-winning goal in overtime against VMI ... Assisted the game-winning goal in a 3-2 win over VCU ... Scored career-high two goals and had one assist in a 6-0 win vs. Winthrop ... Recorded his first career start for HPU and had one goal vs. St. Bonaventure.
At High Point in 2010: ... Named to the Big South All-Freshman Team ... Appeared in all 21 games ... Scored his first collegiate goal in a 4-1 win at Longwood ... Had an assist in a 4-1 win over Richmond ... Recorded his first career assist in a win over Rider.
Prep, etc.: A 2010 NSCAA High School All-American ... Graduated from Northwestern High School ... Three-time State AAAA Champion (2008-2010) ... Had 80 points on 31 goals and 18 assists his senior season ... Northwestern went undefeated and earned ESPN Rise Overall #1 National Ranking and NSCA Overall #1 National Ranking in 2009 ... Served as team captain in 2009 and 2010 ... Named second-team All-American by Parade in 2009 ... Four-time All-Region (2007-2010) ... Two-time All-State (2009-2010) ... Selected as South Carolina Super 22 ... Selected for the Clash of the Carolinas Senior Game ... Played for Discoveries SC under Dominic Wren and South Carolina United under Rob Stickland ...
